The winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2015 were announced today: Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar. An excellent choice, in my opinion! All the investigations that focus on DNA functioning, as in this case, are crucial to unravel the DNA paradigm which carries in itself a huge and essential part of the knowledge about Humanity itself!
No one has the slightest idea about the complexity of these investigations, or the needed persistence to lead them to a successful conclusion. It takes years and years of thorough investigation, trial and error, until you can reach a relevant conclusion. And in most cases, this conclusion is a subtlety, the smallest detail that will a huge difference to various study areas there onwards.
My sincere congratulations to them for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and also for the way in which they have enlightened the scientific community! I’m sure this new knowledge on cellular repair will bear fruit and bring us great new features for the future.
